Kannada Lessons : DP : Getting slipper stiched

If your slipper is torn and you try to get it stitched….

E: my slipper is torn. Could you please mend it for me.
K: nanna chappali kitthogide. dayaviTTu idannu sari maaDi koDteera ?
Translation (my – slipper – torn – please – this – repair - give)

E: madam, this is the 6th time you are bringing the same slipper to me
K: madam, idu 6ne sala neevu ide chappali~na nann hatra tandirodu.
Translation (madam – this – 6th time – you – same – slipper – to me - bringing)

E: What can I do, if you don’t stitch it properly?
K: naa enu maaDli neevu sariyaagi holiyade idre?
Translation (I – what – can do – you – properly – not stitch)

E: Its hard for me to find a place where I can stitch on this slipper. Where to stitch?
K: ee chappali~li holeyalu jaaga~ne uLidilla. elli holili ?
Translation (this – slipper – to stitch – place – not there – where – to stitch)

E: Stitch it well so that this is the last time I bring it to you.
K: matte nimma hatra taradante repEri maaDi.
Translation (again – to you – don’t bring – repair - do)

E: Instead of bringing it to me again, please buy a new one.
K: nanna hatra taruva badalu, hosa chappali togoLLi
Translation (to me – bring – instead – new slipper - buy)

Kannada Lessons : DP : How do you give directions

If someone asks you for directions, how do you respond?

E: Sir, could you please help me in finding this address?
K: sir, ee address huDukuvudakke sahaya maDutteera?
Translation (sir – this address – to search – help – will you do)

E: Yes. Please go straight ahead on this road.
K: hu. Heege ide rasteli seeda hOgi.
Translation (yes – like this – on this road – straight - go)

E: Turn right where you see the ABC Hospital.
K: ABC aaspatre baLi balakke tirugi.
Translation (ABC hospital – near – right – you turn)

E: Turn left at 4th cross.
K: 4ne aDDa rasteli eDakke tirugi.
Translation (4th cross road – left – you turn)

E: Go straight for a furlong, you would find the house to your right.
K: ondu furlong seeda hOgi, mane balagaDe kaaNutte.
Translation (one furlong straight – go- house – right side – you will see)

E: Also there is a bus stop in front of the house.
K: mane munde ondu bustop ide
Translation (house – in front – one – bus stop - there)

E: Thanks for your help.
K: sahaya maDiddakke dhanyavaada.
Translation (help – you have done - thanks)

Kannada Lessons : DP : How do you report an accident

You are on your way to office and witness an accident happening on the highway. How do you report it? How do you react?

E: Help! An accident has happened here.
ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿ, ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಅಪಘಾತ ಆಗಿದೆ.
K: sahaaya maaDi, illi ondu apaghaatha aagide.
Translation (help do ! here one accident happened)


E: Are you hurt?
ನಿಮಗೆ ಗಾಯ ಆಗಿದೆಯ?
K: nimage gaaya aagideya?
Translation (for you – wound – has it happened)


E: Yes! My hand is broken, and my head is aching.
ಹೌದು! ನನ್ನ ಕೈ ಮುರಿದಿದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ನನ್ನ ತಲೆ ನೋಯುತ್ತಿದೆ.
K: houdu! nanna kai muridide, mattu nanna tale nOvuttide.
Translation (yes!my hand – is broken – and- my head – is paining)



E: Wait, I will call up the police and the ambulance.
ತಡೆಯಿರಿ, ನಾನು ಪೋಲಿಸರನ್ನೂ ಮತ್ತು ಆಂಬುಲನ್ಸ್ ಅನ್ನು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತೇನೆ.
K: taDeyiri, naanu polisarannu, mattu ambulance annu kareyuttEne.
Translation (wait – I – police and ambulance – will call)



E: Hello Police. I called to report an accident.
ಹಲೊ ಪೊಲೀಸರೆ. ನಾನು ಒಂಡು ಅಪಘಾತದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸಲು ಕರೆ ಮಾಡಿದೆ.
K: Hello Poleesare. naanu ondu apaghaatada bagge tiLisalu kare maaDide.
Translation (hello police. I- one – accident – about – inform – call - made)


E: Good job. Where are you right now?
ಒಳ್ಳೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೀರ. ನೀವು ಈಗ ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದೀರ?
K: oLLe kelasa MaaDiddeera. Neevu eega elli iddeera?
Translation (good job – u have done – you – now – where - there)


E: I am near the Koodlu gate circle, on the Hosur Road.
ನಾನು ಈಗ ಕೂಡ್ಲು ಗೇಟ್ ಹತ್ತಿರ, ಹೊಸೂರ್ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದೇನೆ.
K: naanu eega Koodlu gate hattira, Hosur rasteyli iddEne.
Translation (I-now-Koodlu gate – near – on hosur road - there)


E: Is anybody hurt?
ಯಾರಿಗಾದರು ಗಾಯ ಆಗಿದೆಯ?
K: yaarigaadaru gaaya aagideya?
Translation (for anybody – wound – happened)


E: One car is damaged and there is smoke from the front.
ಒಂದು ಕಾರು ಹಾಳಾಗಿದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಮುಂದೆಯಿಂದ ಹೊಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತಿದೆ.
K: ondu Kaaru haaLaagide, mattu mundeyinda hoge baruttide.
Translation (one car – spoilt/damaged – and – from front – smoke - coming)


E: The doctor came. He has brought medicines to reduce your pain.
ವೈದ್ಯರು ಬಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರು ನಿಮ್ಮ ನೋವನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡಲು ಔಷಧಿ ತಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
K: Vaidyaru bandiddare. avaru nimma nOvannu kaDime maaDalu oushadhi tandiddare.
Translation (one doctor – has come. He – your – pain – reduce – to do- medicine – has brought)

Kannada Lessons : DP : conversation with tailor

Sample conversation with the tailor:

E: Hello, Is the dress I gave for stitching ready?
K: namaskaara, naanu holiyalu kotta batte ready~agideya?
ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ, ನಾನು ಹೊಲಿಯಲು ಕೊಟ್ಟ ಬಟ್ಟೆ ರೆಡಿ ಅಗಿದೆಯ?

E: no madam, come tomorrow.
K: illa madam. naLe banni.
ಇಲ್ಲ ಮೆಡಮ್. ನಾಳೆ ಬನ್ನಿ.

E: You had said you would give it today itself?
K: batte ivatte koDtini anta hELidri?
ಬಟ್ಟೆ ಇವತ್ತೆ ಕೊಡುತ್ತೇನೆ ಅಂತ ಹೇಳಿದ್ರಿ?

E: At what time can I come and collect the dress?
K: baTTe iskoLakke yavaga barli? (iskoLakke - spoken form of collect. we can also use tegedukonDu hogakke)
ಬಟ್ಟೆ ಇಸ್ಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಯಾವಾಗ ಬರಲಿ?

E: I want the dress today itself since I am going out of station tomorrow.
K: nanage baTTe ivatte beku. naLe naanu oorige hoguttiddini.
ನನಗೆ ಬಟ್ಟೆ ಇವತ್ತೆ ಬೇಕು. ನಾಳೆ ನಾನು ಊರಿಗೆ ಹೊಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ.

E: Ok. Come at 6pm in the evening.
K: sari. Sanje 6 ganTe ge banni.
ಸರಿ. ಸಂಜೆ 6 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಬನ್ನಿ.

E: Please keep it ready by evening. Stitch well.
K: dayaviTTu sanje ready maaDi kodi. Sariyaagi holiyiri.
ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ಸಂಜೆ ರೆಡಿ ಮಾಡಿ ಕೊಡಿ. ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಹೊಲಿಯಿರಿ.

Kannada Lessons : DP : conversation with Gas Agency

If you want to book a gas cylinder at the local Gas agency:

E: Hello, is this XXX Gas Agency?
K: Hello, idu XXX Gas Agency naa?
ಹಲೊ, ಇದು XXX ಗ್ಯಾಸ್ ಏಜೆನ್ಸಿನಾ?

E: Hello, I am Supriya speaking.
K: namaskaara, naanu Supriya maataaDuttiruvudu.
ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ, ನಾನು ಸುಪ್ರಿಯ ಮಾತಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದು

E: Tell me Supriya, what do you want?
K: hELi Supriya~avare, Enu bEku?
ಹೇಳಿ ಸುಪ್ರಿಯ~ಅವರೇ, ಏನು ಬೇಕು?

E: I want to book one gas cylinder. The one at home is empty.
K: naanu ondu(one) gas cylinder~annu book maaDabEku. Maneyalli(at home) iruva cylinder khaali(empty) aagide.
ನಾನು ಒಂಡು ಗ್ಯಾಸ್ ಸಿಲಿಂಡರ್~ಅನ್ನು ಬುಕ್ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು. ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಸಿಲಿಂಡರ್ ಖಾಲಿ ಆಗಿದೆ.

E: Please tell me your address, Supriya.
K: Supriya, nimma viLaasa(address) hELi.

K: nanna viLaasa, aidane(fifth) aDDa raste(cross road), hannondane(11th) mukhya raste(main road), AAA baDaavaNe(layout).
ನನ್ನ ವಿಳಾಸ, ಐದನೆಯ ಅಡ್ಡ ರಸ್ತೆ, ಹನ್ನೊಂದನೆಯ ಮುಖ್ಯ ರಸ್ತೆ, ಆಆಆ ಬಡಾವಣೆ.

E: Please give me your mobile number
K: dayaviTTu nimma mobile sankhyeyannu koDi.
ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮೊಬೈಲ್ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಡಿ.

E: My mobile number is 12345
K: nanna mobile sankhye(number) 12345.
ನನ್ನ ಮೊಬೈಲ್ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ 12345.

E: When will you give the cylinder?
K: neevu cylinder yaavaaga koDutteera?
ನೀವು ಸಿಲಿಂಡರ್ ಯಾವಾಗ ಕೊಡುತ್ತೀರ?

E: You will get the cylinder in 10 hours.
K: nimage cylinder hattu ghanTe oLage siguttade.
ನಿಮಗೆ ಸಿಲಿಂಡರ್ ಹತ್ತು ಗಂಟೆ ಒಳಗೆ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ.
