Different forms of the verb “tinnu” : meaning - eat
naanu nenne uppiTTu tinde.
 I - yesterday – uppiTTu - ate
[I ate uppiTTu yesterday]

Rama naLe Janapada lOkadalli roTTi tinnuttaane. (tinnuttaaLe in case of a girl)
 Rama - tomorrow – in Janapada Loka - roTTi - will eat
[Rama will eat roTTi in Janapada lOka tomorrow]

hOda tingaLu alle dose tindiddanu. (tindiddaLu in case of a girl)
 last – month– - there itself - dose – had eaten
[last month, he had eaten dose there itself]

Jasti haNNu tinnu. (tinni with respect and also plural)
 more - fruit – eat
[Eat more fruits]

haNNu tinnade iddare (tinde iddare) rOga barutte.
 Fruit – if not eaten – disease – will come
[If you don’t eat fruits, you will get diseases]

ooTakke roTTi tinnutteeya? (tinnuteera with respect/plural)
 For lunch - roTTi – will you eat
[Will you eat roTTi for lunch]

naanu tomato tinnuvudilla (tinnalla).
 I - tomato – will not go
[I will not eat tomato]

neenu sebu tindare, naanu kittaLe tinnutteeni (tintini).
 you - apple – eat - I – orange – will eat
[If you eat apple, I will eat orange]

baLe haNNu tinnuttiddaga, sippe keLage bittu.
 Banana – fruit – while eating – peel – down - fell
[While I was eating a banana, the peel fell down]

Neenu hagalakayi tinnuvudaadare chocolate koDstini.
 you - bitter gourd – if you eat – chocolate – will give.
[If you eat bitter gourd, I will buy you a chocolate]

Different forms of the verb “hOgu” : meaning - go
Rama nenne Mysooriige hodanu. (hodaLu in case of a girl)
 Rama - yesterday – Mysooru - went
[Rama went to Mysooru yesterday]

Rama naLe ChamunDige hoguttaane. (hoguttaaLe in case of a girl)
 Rama - tomorrow – ChamunDi - will go
[Rama will go to Chamundi tomorrow]

neenu kare maadidaga Rama angaDige hogiddanu. (hogiddaLu in case of a girl)
 You – call – made - Rama - shop – had gone
[Rama had gone to a shop when you called]

llinda seeda hogu. (hogi with respect and also plural)
 From here - straight – go
[Go straight from here]

modalu, naLe manege hogi amele cinemage hogu.
 first - tomorrow – house - go and – later – cinema – go
[Go home first and tthen go to the cinema]

naLe program~ge hOgade iddare akka bayyuttare.
 tomorrow – program - if you dont go – sister – will scold
[If you don’t go to the program tomorrow, sister will scold you]

Rama ivattu devasthanakke hOgutteeya?
 Rama - today – temple - will you go
[Rama will you go to the temple today]

naanu US~ge hOguvudilla (hOgalla).
 I - US – will not go
[I will not go to US]

neenu devasthanakke hOdare prasaada sigutte.
 you - temple – if you go - prasaada – you will get
[If you go to the temple, you will get prasaada]

Mysoreige hOguttiddaga, apaghaata ayitu.
 Mysore - while going – accident - happened
[While I was going to Mysore, there was an accident]

Neenu manege hOguvudaadare naanu barteeni.
 you - house – in case you are going - I – will come
[In case you are going home, I will come along]

Kannada Lessons : DP : Different forms of the verb “ba” : meaning - come

A few people recently asked me pointers to translation of few common sentences in Kannada. I had posted these earlier in Infy-blogs DP (Dinada Pada) and now re-posting at the external world for the benefit of those who know a little kannada and now want to rectify their grammatical mistakes. Also since Karnataka Rajyotsava is round the corner, I shall dedicate this month for Kannada lessons.

Different forms of the verb “ba” : meaning - come
Kannada Sentence : Rama nenne BengaLoorige banda/bandanu. [bandaLu - in case of a girl]
English Translation : Rama - yesterday – Bengalooru - came
English Meaning :[Rama came to BengaLooru yesterday]

Rama naLe manege baruttaane. [baruttaaLe - in case of a girl]
 Rama - tomorrow – house - will come
[Rama will come home tomorrow]

Rama nenne parangi haNNu togonDu bandidda/bandiddanu. [bandiddaLu - in case of a girl]
 Rama - yesterday – papaya - fruit – got – had come
[Rama got papaya fruit when he came home yesterday]

Rama, ivattu namma manege ba.
 Rama - today – our - house - come
[Rama, come to our house today]

Rama, naLe manege bandu amele cinemage hogu.
 Rama - tomorrow – house - come and – later – cinema – go
[Rama, come home first tomorrow and then go to the cinema]

Rama naLe manege barade iddare amma bayyuttare.
 Rama - tomorrow – house - if you don’t come – mother – will scold
[Rama, If you don’t come home tomorrow, mother will scold you]
